Санкт-Петербург

All the beautiful things that happened when an unhinged American "freak" had to go to a hostile, paranoid Russia during the covid pandemic (and pre-Ukraine war).

System of a Down - Chop Suey

During a quick fling with the receptionist at the Demidov hotel where I had been staying, she told me that the "real reason" I got kicked out was because the manager thought I was going to kill myself because I was heard singing this song one night. I wasn't suicidal, just a bit tweaked, but if I had been, bullying me would've been the worst thing he could do (which he knew). Fortunately, I got a much needed endorphin boost to straighten my head out.

Ghosts of Trubetskoy Prison in Peter and Paul Fortress

In Autumn of 2021 I visited the Peter and Paul Fortress (Петропавловской крепости) in Saint Petersburg. Naturally, the first and only building I visited was its Trubetskoy Bastion Prison (Тюрьмы Трубецкого бастиона). Upon sticking my head in one of the cells, I felt something come over me, as if some tormented soul still lived there. Somebody should investigate.

Random Attack

Some asshole attacked me with a bat for trying to buy weed in his apartment building. Obviously this is a proxy photo since I don't know him.

Ukraine War

At the time of this trip, I didn't know that war was coming. Inundated with so much unreliable media, it's hard to ever know what's really going on. But I did feel the tension building up once I got there.
