My Code of Conduct

One of the only ways to avoid conflict and guarantee results over the long run is to have a clear Code of Conduct. These rules make working with me simpler, less risky and more profitable.

Subject to Change

Though fairly settled, some of these policies are subject to change.

Conclusions Only

It's not always practical or even possible to explain my reasoning so I sometimes employ a Conclusions Only Policy — issuing advice without explaining it or "showing my work."

Context

Sometimes in the presence of others, I may be compelled to say odd or extreme things. For this reason, everything I say – even direct quotes – must be interpreted within the right context or accompanied by my explanation to be properly understood.

Discretion

I do not reveal the identities of certain people I know or work with publicly.

Door Slam

Once someone pushes me past the limit, I refuse to interact with them at all. I don't resort to this measure lightly, but only when I doubt that they can/will ever redeem themselves, or because they are only pretending to try. I believe people must always be given the chance and have the obligation to make amends, but I don't waste my time trying to convey what they already know but fail to admit. See Blocked Communication Exceptions.

Exploited Technicalities Exception

If someone technically follows my rules, but does so in a way I deem contrary to their intent, then it doesn't count and I am under no obligations to them.

Fibbing to Strangers

After 35 years of trying, I've finally had to admit that it's actually impossible for me to be perfectly honest with everyone since they usually won't permit me enough time or credit to properly answer their questions. But I hate lying. So my new policy is to be as honest as possible with strangers but to reserve my truest answers about complex topics for those who seem likely to understand them. I therefore must fib when I cannot avoid answering certain questions. I define a "fib" as a harmless lie used to ease social interactions. This compromise will allow me to better cooperate with others in accordance with their contemporary perception of reality.

Independence

I try to be independent, because I don't feel that I get my fair dues from the system, and don't want to take advantage of others.

My Interest Rate

Due to the combination of high returns and already high risk of my endeavours, I must charge a higher "interest rate" on karmic debt than people may expect - particularly if the debt was incurred without my permission.

Punishment

I am a friendly and sensitive person, but do not fail to punish those who deserve it.

Rush to Print

In my hurry to publish content, I sometimes make errors in judgement and miscommunicate ideas. This is only to serve my audience as quickly as possible, since I believe they can see through my mistakes to my intended meaning anyways (if they try).
