Meet Sam & Bob

Sammiecakes and Hamburglar, or "Bob" for short, were my two cats when I lived in California. They were born in San Diego in 2013 after their stately Chartreux mother was scandalously impregnated by an unknown street cat. Though littermates, their personalities were starkly different. Samantha was a fountain of endless joy and affection, while Bob led a visceral life of debauchery and destruction. And then there was Prince, my ex-wife's evil genius Persian longhair, who was accidentally christened a male name despite being Queen of the Universe.

Feeding Strategy

In addition to regular treats and wet food, my cats always had unlimited access to their choice of dry food varieties. Everyone said they would get fat, but I knew they wouldn't, because they never had any notion of scarcity to prompt them to over-eat. Providing multiple options gave them variety and let me observe their preferences to improve the offering over time; and feeding them was easy because all I had to do was shake the bins to top them off (and their water had a direct line from the tap).
