Tough Yet Sensitive

In response to hardship, hands grow callouses to protect themselves, but at the cost of losing sensitivity. Some people are the same way, but any comfort from numbness is only an illusion. There is nothing safe about insensitivity and nothing tough about hiding from emotions. Sensitivity increases the likelihood that you'll be able to avoid pain in the first place; and a greater capacity for beauty better motivates one to overcome challenges robocops cannot. Still, it's difficult to feel what others repress. But it's worth it.
