A Slave of Two Masters

Computer programming is the art and science of doublespeak — you must write for humans and computers at once. Like if a Francophone and Sinophone each asked (in their native tongue) who I am, to respond "Jack" would answer both, but to say: "My name is Jack," could be confusing. People intuitively filter out unimportant data but computers need very strict phrasing, which is far from how humans talk, but programmers must be able to read your code as well. This has gotten easier as greater syntactic consensus has emerged in the industry.
